COURSE MODULE: creativity *!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!* CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING by Markley
ESSENTIAL STEPS IN CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
Back to course module on creativity.

  • Objective finding: (goal, wish, challenge)
    I wish . . .
It would be great if . . .

  • Fact finding: (list of all data, facts, questions and feelings to get a clear picture of the situation)
    What's happening?
    When is it happening?
    What have you tried?
    What is a brief history of . . .

  • Problem finding: (pick a specific statement that nails the problem "a problem well defined is a problem half solved!")
It would be great if . . .
In what ways might we . . .
    How might we . . .

  • Idea finding: (To generate as many solutions to the problem statement as possible)
    Get wild and crazy
Change perspective e.g. How would a 5 year old, a Martian, an aboriginal, etc. view this problem

  • Solution finding: (to identify strengths and weaknesses of promising ideas and decide which ideas to use)
Generate criteria: "The solution will work if it..."
or "Will it ...?" or "Does it ...?"
or What I see myself (us) doing is . . .

  • Acceptance finding: (to develop a plan for action)
List everything needed to get the idea accomplished, e.g.:
    Who?
    What has to happen?
    Where?
    How do we implement?
